This often happens because the complexity of our clients' experiences goes beyond what we initially know or understand—especially when adoption is part of their life story.

We often hope our existing knowledge of trauma, attachment, and family systems should be enough to provide a good service. However, what I've learned over ten years of practice is that Adoption—the combination of trauma, attachment, and systems—is more than any one modality can fully address.

It demands a high level of conceptualization, careful delivery, and high care for all members of the adoption constellation, even those not physically present in the room. Adoption is a life journey of loss and gain, and the adoption triad is often unintentionally overlooked by professionals, which can unfortunately cause more harm than good.
